Southeast Asia, Australia, and the Philippines are considered the homeland of this plant. In the second half of the 17th century, the German naturalist Georg Rumf discovered the plant. The first name "Phalaenopsis" was given to this plant by Karl Blum, who thought the leaves of this flower looked like the wings of a butterfly. Since 1825, we have known it under this name. This plant is often called the "butterfly orchid."
How to care?
When mentioning the wild orchid, you probably remembered the movie "Wild Orchid" with the participation of Mickey Rourke. But to us, these words have a completely different meaning. The first orchid was found growing from the bark of a tree on one of the small islands. This is where the phrase wild orchid comes from. Phalaenopsis is a parasitic plant that can grow even on rocky soil. Now it has become a potted plant and can be found in any home, so its roots do not need to be completely covered with soil, and it is better if you keep this plant in a transparent pot so that the sun's rays reach the roots. Phalaenopsis is a plant that loves warmth and humidity. It will help if you place the potted orchid next to a bowl of water or a humidifier, wipe the leaves often with a damp cloth and moisten the soil. There is a specific way to water a potted orchid - once a week, place the pot in a container of water for 30 minutes so that the water covers only half of the pot. The orchid itself will take the required amount of water from the roots.
