On August 28, the Christian world celebrates the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. In the Orthodox Church, Mary's Day is considered to be one of the most important holidays, which is preceded by a two-week fast. A service is held in the temples on the occasion of the holiday.
On this day, the death, resurrection and glorification of the Mother of God is celebrated. Georgia is a country whose population welcomes this holiday with great joy. Georgians refer to the Mother of God with great love and respect, and that is why "Mary" is the most common name in Georgia. August 28 has been declared an official state holiday. Traditionally, flowers are blessed in some churches on the day of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
Mary did not die of her own free will. Due to the mortal nature of man, Mary's life ended due to natural causes.
According to the Church, Mary was sinless. However, according to the Gospels and liturgical texts, Mary had to follow the same path as all other mortals. Christ had to save her from all trials and death. It was after her death that Christ resurrected Mary as the mother of life to participate in the eternal life of God's kingdom.
